I left the last shelter later than usual. There was some straightening up to do in my backpack, and I wasn’t in any hurry since the weather looked good.
Of course there was the requisite big climb of about 1,000 feet almost from the start along with a few smaller ups and downs. The trail was crowded because all the hikers who went to the brewery the day before came back to the trail at the same time.
Several hours into the day’s hike, I met up with a group of hikers at an overlook. This one guy was standing right on the edge of the overlook with nothing below him for hundreds if not over a thousand feet. He made me very nervous.
Late in the afternoon, it got dark and then it thundered. Finally, it started raining and I got wet. After putting the cover on my backpack, I threw on a rain coat and kept walking. The rain ended after an hour and my pants dried out pretty quick.
I arrived at the shelter at 5:15 and found a spot to setup. This shelter is one of the nicer ones on the trail. It holds ten hikers and we filled it up.
