Mile 1,000.2
Elevation 938
Miles Hiked 15.3
Hurray! I went over 1,000 miles hiking the Appalachian Trail. Of course, actual mileage is higher when you count side trails and town trips.
Last night had an interesting conclusion. The redneck group I mentioned in the previous day’s post spectacularly exceeded expectations. I was fast asleep when at 10:00 PM a very loud and profane shouting match erupted between two of the women. Apparently, one of the women was packing up to leave and the other woman did not appreciate it. This morning other hikers that had camped as much as a hundred yards away were asking me about the fracas. I got up before 6:00 AM and got the heck out of there.
The first part of the day’s hike went fast and I did nine miles in four hours. Then the “Roller Coaster” was next. The “Roller Coaster” is thirteen miles of steep ascents and descents. The next 6.5 miles was all “Roller Coaster.” It took me five hours to finish and reach this shelter. Everything I was wearing was literally wet as if I jumped in the water fully clothed.
The shelter was sparsely populated with just myself and Cuisine sleeping in it. Two other tents were at the campground – one with Sir Poopsalot. It would seem the bubble I was in has passed me by.
