I left the Secret Shelter at 8:00 AM and headed for Unionville, NY.  I’m a day behind on my schedule, so I’ll run out of food before I get my provision box.  In Unionville there is a store to get provisions and that’s where I’m heading.

I made it to town in a couple of hours and met a female hiker, “Griz”, who is doing a flip/flop through hike.  After we both shopped, I bought a supply of Spam and protein bars, I got an apple turnover and sat on the store’s porch with Griz and pondered life while we both ate.

I think the store gave us a gentle hint that it was time to leave – they pulled out a power washer and began to spray the porch.  Griz and I left together and headed for the shelter.  A little after we left, it began to rain.  It wasn’t a driving rain, so I didn’t put on my rain jacket.  The terrain was flat and we hiked fast and got to the shelter by 1:30 PM.  I was soaked.

With the onset of hypothermia upon me, I stripped off my wet clothes and put on dry shorts and my jacket.  Another hiker, Furnace, was already there.  The three of us talked in the shelter until 8:00 PM when we all climbed into our sleeping bags for the night.
