Glenn Brook Shelter

Glenn Brook Shelter

Mile 1,513.8
Elevation 1,883 feet
Miles Hiked 9.7

In miles this was a short day, but there were three strenuous climbs.  The first was Bear Mountain, which was a 700 foot elevation gain.  Then Mount Race with a 1,000 foot elevation gain.  Mount Race was a scary climb, because you walk on a rock ledge a few feet from the edge of the mountain peak.  One wrong step and you’re doing a header more than a 1,000 feet straight down.  The steep climb down on rocks wasn’t much fun either.  Last, there was Mount Everett with a 700 foot elevation gain.  A fun day.

During the hike I crossed into Massachusetts, so that’s another state down.

When I arrived at the shelter I setup my tent.  The shelter is really small and besides, I sleep better in my tent.  There were a bunch of hikers present and a ridge runner.  We sat by a campfire for awhile until it was time to head to our tents and bed.
