Hurray! No rain last night. I left the shelter at 7:30 AM and started hiking the wrong way. I caught my mistake before I went too far and turned around to go north.
The trail was remarkably smooth with few rocks, which was good as I hobbled down the trail. I have finally accepted the fact that my shoes are at least part of my foot problem if not all of it, and I’m going to have to replace them as soon as possible.
The trail passed into Connecticut later in the morning. That’s the fourth state I’ve been in during this hike so far. During the afternoon, a woman hiker blew past me with a male close behind. He stopped and we chatted a bit. It seems the woman has hiked the CDT and PCT in the past and this hike of the AT was to complete her triple crown.
It was supposed to rain all afternoon. Every once in a while it would sprinkle for a few minutes and by the time I got my rain jacket on, it would stop, so then I took the jacket off. This happened three times before I decided to leave the jacket off no matter what. It never did rain.
Connecticut is easy hiking and I made good time to the shelter, arriving at 3:30 PM. I have some things with which to catch up, so it will be busy until hiker midnight.
