Started the day late after a really good night’s sleep. I feel rested and ready for a big climb first thing, so I’m off at 8 AM. The climb was about 1,250 feet with a few smaller after that.
My mind is on what to do at the end of the day. I have a lot of food in my pack and more waiting at the Twin Lakes general store. The thought was to camp one more night on the trail, but I decided to go for Twin Lakes.
Around 3:30 I arrived at a trail, which leads to town. Several posts on Guthook (hiking navigation app) said don’t take it, but I was curious. The trail wasn’t bad, but I sure wouldn’t want to go back up it. It was rocky and steep.
I arrived in town just after 4 PM. I first grabbed a Gatorade and then my provision box. I have too much food. While sitting at the store, I called Win Mar Cabins and negotiated a good price for a cabin. The cost is $65. Another hiker agreed to join me and he chipped in $20. Final price was pretty good.
The cabin itself has a fridge, stove, microwave, etc. and a mouse. Okay, so it wasn’t the Hilton. It was good enough for us hiker trash. Besides, anyone who has ever slept in a shelter on the Appalachian Trail has slept with mice. I’m right at home.
