Breaking the Boredom on the Arizona Trail

While packing up this morning, I saw my first, other hiker.  Not a lot of hikers on the trail right now.

I was off by 7:30.  The trail was going up and down but nothing big.  A guy I met on Facebook, Scott, offered to cache some water for me.  That first cache came up at the Murray Lake Trailhead.  And there it was!  A gallon just for me.  I only needed three liters, so I took that and marked the jug public so others could take it.

Just before the trailhead, I met my first southbound hiker, trail name – Twinkle Toes.  We walked along for awhile and talked.  He was a nice guy in his late 20’s or early 30’s.  After the trailhead, we split since he was capable of hiking much faster.

I walked along and checked out alleged water sources to break up the boredom.  Most map marked water sources are either dry, filled with algea or a mud puddle.  That’s why some hikers cache water.  There are trail angels that leave public water for any hiker, too.

Getting towards the end of the day and I started looking for a campsite.  The original plan was to stop at Crane Lake, but that was not a good spot.  I went about another mile and found a good spot to stop around 4:30.  Just a nondescript day on the trail.

Note:  My phone crashed in the Grand Canyon and I lost the pictures I took today.
