A Gloomy Day on the Trail

Miles Hiked 130.9
Elevation 7,005
Miles Hiked Today 17.2

I had a great night’s sleep last night.  Definitely the best campsite is on a thick bed of pine needles.  I was ready to go by 7:30 AM.  The day was kind of overcast and cool, which made for good hiking.

I was okay on water for now, but I was hoping some trail angels left some at a trailhead about six miles ahead.  I made good time and arrived at the  trailhead at 10 AM.  I met, Zack, another hiker there and we both looked for a water cache. We did find one, but there was only about 1/2 liter of water left.  Zack had more water than me, so I took the water.

The next water was about five miles away, so I crossed my fingers that it would not be dry and kept going.  A couple of hours later, I hiked right by the water.  Zack was there and showed me where the water was located.  I had a hike up to a ridge and there it was.  Plenty to be had.

The day was turning gloomier and light rain was falling.  I thought about stopping at 3 PM, but I just couldn’t bring myself to do it.   Finally at 4:30, I found a spot and setup camp.  I made some good miles today and now it was time to get out of the rain.
