Goodbye Four Peaks Wilderness

I was hiking by 6:30 AM.  Days are getting shorter and I need to make the most of the available sunlight.  The target today is just a few miles short of Hwy 188, which ultimately will take me into Globe.  My concern is I get to the highway late and no one picks me up while hitchhiking.  That would leave me at the highway in the dark, and then I would have to find a campsite.  Instead, I have a primo campsite on a ridge with a great 360 degree view.

I finished off the Four Peaks Wilderness, and I’m glad.  I find no joy walking on the outer edge of a mountain on a narrow path with loose stones and rocks.  It takes a lot of concentration not to lose your footing and take a 1,000 foot dive into the canyon below.

While the rest of the day was not easy, the trail opened up with some wider paths, no mountain edge paths and a nice long ridge walk.  Matter of fact, I wonder why the trail designers didn’t do a ridge walk for the Four Peaks.

At around 4 PM, I found my campsite near a radio tower and setup camp.  Tomorrow I go into Globe.
