Desert Heat

PCT Map Miles 205.7
Miles Hiked 141.5
Elevation 1,729 feet
Miles Hiked Today 12.7

The day was started a little late, but I was still able to get going by 7:30.  The trail headed down for about 14 miles.  Normally going down would be good, and it is.  However there are some caveats to that.  Large parts of the trail were rock strewn and overgrown with shrubbery.  It really slowed me down.

Equally as difficult was the heat.  For the first time this hike, I really felt the desert heat.  I didn’t have much water to start so I was conserving.  A little after noon, I filled up.  Before I left the water source, I drank a liter.  I was really thirsty.

As the day progressed, I took several breaks where I could find shade.  There are no trees, so usually shade was behind a large boulder.

The plan was to do at least 15 miles today, but that didn’t happen.  I reached a water source at 5 PM and setup my tent.  Then I drank about a liter and a half of water.  That’s the desert for you.

Oh, yeah! Passed 200 PCT miles today.
