This morning’s hike started out with a bang. I had 4 liters of heavy water and a big climb right at the start. And as if that weren’t enough, another big climb came later in the morning. Needless to say my pace dropped significantly. My goal was to hike at least 15 miles, and it seemed if I wanted to reach that goal, my long siesta in the afternoon may not happen.
I took numerous small breaks throughout the day. While it was still hot, a surprise cloud cover and a change in terrain to forest provided additional protection from the sun. I stopped twice to refill my water and that ensured I would be carrying a lot of water and weight.
I finally reached a campsite just before 5 PM. It was a long day and I’m beat.
