Tony's Hiking Adventure

Lake Waptus Camp

PCT Map Miles 222.6
Miles Hiked 94.9
Elevation 3,216 feet
Miles Hiked Today 16.6

There is only one big ascent today, so I’m hoping to put in a bigger mileage day than I have over the past week.

The hike started out with flat terrain.  There were a few ups and downs but nothing of consequence.  Late morning the big ascent started and it was accompanied with a raging stream crossing. Mya, Lauren and another woman hiker followed me across the stream and we all made it without incident.

The ascent was tough and all the other hikers pulled away as I struggled to go up.  The whole climb of just short of 4 miles took a couple of hours.  After that, the trail went down.

Towards the end of the day, I foolishly did not get water at a good source.  Around 5:00 PM I ran out, but a water source was just a half hour away.  After getting water, I headed down to Lake Waptus.  It is the only documented campsite within about 10 miles.

It was hard to find a spot for my tent.  There were two young women at a site with room for one more.  I asked if I could pitch my tent near their tent and they agreed.  It’s 6:00 PM and its been a long day.
