Tony's Hiking Adventure

The Lion’s Den the Night Before PCT Start

I flew out of Tampa yesterday at 7 PM.  The flight was full and late. Oh joy!  We got into Dallas late and yes, my connecting flight to Seattle was late as well.  And it was full.  Ugh!  But wait.  It gets better.  The plane landed at 12:40 AM and then we had to sit on the tarmac for an hour.  The airport was all but closed.  Our flight was the last one in.  How could they not have a gate for a scheduled flight, but the airport did not.  Finally, it’s 2:00 AM and I have my backpack.  Uber picked me up for what should be a five minute ride.  He can’t find the motel, so I do it for him.  Finally I check in and get to bed at 2:30 AM Pacific Time.  What a day.

You might think that’s all the drama.  You would be wrong.  I have to go to Bellevue for my ride out to the mountains.  Imagine my surprise when I walk up to the bus stop and see a tram for the airport right there.  I could have done that instead of dealing with the lost Uber driver.

Anyway, I catch my bus, and it immediately hits gridlock.  I find out the interstate is closed for two days for a widening project.  I may miss my four hour ride to the mountains and the PCT.  Fortunately, I made it and the rest of the day went along fine.  My tent is up at the Lion’s Den for the night, and tomorrow I start south on the PCT.
