After 2 days in Stehekin, it’s time to get back on the PCT. A shuttle picked us up at 8:00 and took us for an hour long ride out to the trailhead. But before we got to the trailhead the bus made a scheduled stop at the Stehekin bakery. The bakery has a fantastic reputation among hikers as a place to get the best in bakery goods. I wasn’t interested so I skipped it.
The bus arrived at the trailhead at 9:00 a.m. I took off right away hoping to make some early miles while I was still fresh.
The trail was something else today. I did not anticipate the amount of elevation gain that we would experience. The trail went up all day and when I looked at my watch, it showed for the day that we had an elevation game of 3,900 ft.
I met Ben at the campsite around 7 p.m. and we commissarated about the tough climb, which we did that day. Not only was there a lot of elevation gain, but the overgrown trail was nearly impassable in places.
Bem and I had dinner together and then I went to my tent to try to get some sleep. It was truly a long day, and I was sore all over. Unfortunately this affected my sleep. The fact that the tent had been pitched on a slight slope did not help the matter.
Tomorrow promises to be another long day.
