I slept good last night. The fact that I did 10 miles in five hours yesterday probably had something to do with it. It took a little over an hour to pack up and get started. After getting water at a nearby creek, I was off at 7:00.
The closer I get to Oregon the easier the trail seems to get. The trail this morning was no different. I guess I could say I have trail legs now; although I’m not sure that a hiker at 76 years old can really get trail legs.
The highlight of the day were the lakes that I passed. It’s really cool to see pristine lakes in the wilderness.

I met up with Mike Meyers (trail name – Halloween) towards the end of the day, and we discussed camp tonight. He was going for a 21 mile day, but I wanted no part of that. My plan was to stop at a lake at 18 miles get water and camp. However when I got to the lake I didn’t like the looks of it and passed it by.
There was another lake about a mile down the trail. I would try to get water there and see about camping. When I arrived at the lake, Mike was there and so was another hiker that I had seen before. We all talked and it was decided to push on another 2 miles to a trailhead where there were a lot of campsites, toilet and picnic tables.
So we all pushed on. I arrived about 6:10 p.m. and Mike and the other hiker were already there. It was a long day but I made good time and a lot of miles. This was my first 21 mile day of the hike.
