This is it. Goodbye Trout Lake. It’s hard to imagine the circumstances that would return me to this neat little mountain town. And so at 12:00 noon, I threw my pack into an old pickup truck of an trail angel along with three other hikers, and away we went to the Trout Lake trailhead.
The ride takes about 20 minutes and this is the first time this driver has made the run. He drove fast – maybe a little too fast. Anyway, we arrived in one piece, but I wouldn’t tempt fate with another ride.
After arrival at the trailhead, the four of us who had been in the pickup put our packs on and three headed south and one headed North.
It was 12:30 when I started hiking. My stretch goal was a campsite 10 miles south of the trailhead. I didn’t really think that I would make it that far.
The trail was pretty easy. Most of the ascents were not steeply graded, so I was able to make time even going up.
The rest of the afternoon was uneventful. I was making good time and did reach my stretch goal of a campsite at 10 miles. I wish I could say that it was painless but I’m definitely having problems with my right foot and right leg. Maybe sleep tonight will fix that.
