I was up at 5:15 a.m. and ready to go when it was light at 6:15 a.m. Today, I’m heading to the Blue Mountain Shelter. I had been keeping my miles down, but if I’m going to go shelter to shelter and finish in time to catch my flight, I’ll have to do some bigger miles.
In order to get back to the trail, I had to hike .6 mile on the shelter trail. I added that to my miles hiked today. Once on the OT trail, I did my best to move quickly. One mile in and I stopped for water. I filled up with 4 liters. Along with the provisios I got yesterday, my backpack is really heavy. I just hope I can make it to the shelter before dark with this load.
The trail didn’t have any big ascents or descents during the day, so I made good time, until… There always seems to be a big climb at the end of the day, and today was no exception. It really slowed me down, but I still arrived at the shelter at 4:15 p.m.
This shelter is nice. It has a wooden platform with a picnic table. The interior is smaller than usual, but I’m the only one here, so no big deal.
Tomorrow is another 15 mile day. Ugh!
