Churchill Scott Shelter

Mile 1,700.0
Elevation 2,575.0 feet
Miles Hiked 14.8

I was off by 7:00 AM.  I’m obsessing about a 2,500 foot climb, which is the biggest climb since the southern part of the trail.  The first part of the climb wasn’t bad, but the trail got progressively narrower and rocky.  It was a tough climb that took me several hours, and I was glad it was done.  During the hike I came upon the below sign.  Only 500 miles to Katahdin, which is the end of the Appalachian Trail.  I logged 1,700 miles total on the trail today, too.

Katahdin 500 Miles

Although I had thought about a motel or hostel for the night, I decided to stay in a shelter.  Rain is still in the forecast, but a shelter will keep me dry.  At 4:45 PM, I was close to the shelter when it started to rain.  I quickened my pace and arrived just as the rain got heavier at 5:00 PM.  I got lucky.  It’s supposed to rain all night.

Later in the evening another hiker came into the shelter, so it looks like it will be just the two of us.
