I left Dalton at 7:15 AM. The goal for the day was the next shelter, but I had my eye on Mount Greylock. Greylock is the highest point in Massachusetts and would be quite the climb if I went for it.
The trail continued through Dalton and as soon as I entered the forest again, the trail began going up. Early on, I met Bob and Jackie, a couple of hikers who had shuttled to Greylock and descended from there to Dalton. They said the trail wasn’t too steep for the most part, which got me thinking more about climbing to the summit.
As I hiked, I went by Gore Pond Outlet. There were frogs in the Pond that were making a racket. I took a video in an attempt to capture the noise, but you can’t hear the frogs on the video.
Just after noon, I went through Cheshire, MA. Right on Main Street is Diane’s Twist. Diane is a little old lady who serves sandwiches and ice cream is which I did partake.
Continuing on, the trail headed up and leveled off in spots, but it was mostly up. At 3:30 PM I arrived at the shelter and immediately decided to go for the summit of Mount Greylock. I arrived at the summit just before 5:30 PM. The total elevation gain from Dalton was almost 2,500 feet.
After checking into the lodge, I took a shower, and then met up with some other hikers. We hung out until bed time.
