This is a town day.  I have my last provision package waiting for me at the hostel, and I’m looking forward to a shower and laundry.

The hike was rocky but quick.  I stopped at Mary’s Rock for some sight seeing before reaching Thortons Gap for pickup by the hostel at 9:45 AM.

The hostel is in an old house in Luray.  There are several upstairs rooms setup for guests.  I was put in a room with a bunk bed, but there was no one else assigned to the room, so it was all mine.

After taking a shower, the owner, Alison, gave me a ride into town.  I stopped at a coffee shop/restaurant and had lunch out on their patio.  It was really a nice day.   Next, I went down the street to look around an outfitter’s store.  My boots still need to be replaced, so I gave them a try.  The sales clerk found me a boot that is affordable and seemed to fit, so I bought the boots.  Tomorrow will tell if I made a mistake.  Anyway, I had to do something.  My current boots are in bad shape.

I walked back to the hostel and began cleaning my gear.  Later I did some hike planning.  If all goes according to plan, I’ll be in Harper’s Ferry next Friday and finished with my hike.
