Creak and I broke camp early and we were on our way by 6:50 AM. The goal was to get into Daleville early, so we could do our wash and clean up, and then go out to dinner.
The trail wasn’t all that hard and we made good time. We arrived in Daleville at 11:30 AM. Our stay there started out at Pizza Hut (a change in plan) after checking into the Howard Johnson Express motel.
On May 22 I took a zero day and went to Outdoor Trails, a local outfitter, to buy new hiking shoes. Unfortunately, their selection was limited and I left empty handed. This is not a good situation since my current boots have almost no tread on one heel, and for the first time in 700 miles of hiking the Appalachian Trail, I developed several blisters thanks to rocks and the worn boots.
The rest of the day was spent running some small errands and cleaning equipment. Creak does not plan to leave Tuesday morning, so I’ll head out by myself. It is supposed to rain for the next three days, which is not something I’m looking forward to. If the rain is heavy Tuesday, I may delay my departure, too.
