Campsite – Lamberts Meadow Trail – Tinker Cliffs

This day was intentionally kept short.  Tomorrow, Creak and I are hiking into Daleville, VA.  We’re going to take a zero day and it couldn’t be on a Sunday, so we’ll arrive on Sunday and not leave until Tuesday morning.  I have a lot to do.  First, I have provisions waiting at the Howard Johnson Express.  However, I still have several days in my backpack, so I’ll be forwarding about half of what I receive to a town further up the trail.  Then I need to mend both pairs of pants or replace them. And last, I need new hiking shoes.  The ones I am wearing now are no longer viable.  Of course lots of town food, a shower, and laundry are on the list, too.

Since it was a short day, I didn’t get going until 9:00 AM.  Creak left an hour earlier.  The attraction of the day was Tinker Cliffs.  They are a number of rock outcroppings with sheer drop off of hundreds of feet. I thought the cliffs were as good or better than McAfee Knob.

After Tinker, I headed down to Lamberts Meadow Shelter to meet Creak.  Just as I arrived, it began to rain, so we sat it out in the shelter.  When the rain stopped, we moved to the campsite of the same name.  Then it started to rain shortly after my tent was setup.  That was some good timing.  It will probably rain most of the night.

Tomorrow – Daleville!
