Frost on the Tent!

Miles Hiked 91.4
Elevation 9,977 feet
Miles Hiked Today 16.7

You may not be able to see it, but that’s frost on my tent. I setup camp in an open field last night and boy, did it get cold. It must have been in the 30°s overnight. My new sleeping bag kept me warm, but it was tough getting out of it in the morning.

I woke early and left the campsite by 6:45 AM. Ahead of me was a six mile hike with an elevation gain of 2,000 feet. Normally I would complain about that but the climb wasn’t bad. On the way, another hiker who was at the same campsite passed me. He told me he froze last night. Obviously he had the wrong type of sleeping bag.

I was surprised that there was snow still on the ground; although it was almost 12,000 feet of elevation. Some of the snow was directly on the trail, so I had to walk through it.

The rest of the day included some small elevation gains, but mostly the trail went down and it was very rocky. I reached camp around 5 PM. It will be interesting to see if it is cold tonight at this lower elevation.
