Miles Hiked Today 15.4
My roommate, Rich, and I got up early. Rich left about 6:30 AM, but I had a few things to do. So, I got a late start today. One of the people from Winmar Cabins took me and a couple of other hikers to the trailhead at 9 AM.
The trail went up a 1,000 feet after a short level walk. The day was warm and my backpack was very heavy after having picked up a provision box in Twin Lakes. Even so, the day went swiftly and was uneventful.
I passed the point in the trail where you go either to the Collegiate West trail and some pretty big elevation climbs or the Collegiate East trail. The east trail has some of its own big climbs, but they are nothing like the west trail. While I originally had planned to hike the Collegiate West trail because of it purported high mountains and great views, I had changed my mind some time ago and stayed on the Colorado Trail, which traversed the Collegiate East trail. There are still plenty of big elevation gains on the east trail as you will see in future blog entries.
The first picture, above, is the view of the Creek out my tents entry. This is really a great spot with many RV’s camping nearby.
