Today was a zero day – no hiking. I just hung around the hostel, read, and did some maintenance on my battered feet. The insoles for my shoes finally made their way from Monarch Mountain Lodge back to the post office, so now my feet are happy.
The hostel is quiet and most guests leave early in the morning, so there are not many people around. Lunch and dinner is about a .7 mile walk to F Street where all the restaurants are. No chains here. It’s all local. They even have an independent pharmacy with a soda fountain.
Tomorrow it’s back to the trail to finish the last half.

Thanks, Robert. I have fond memories of Salida and the hostel. Of all the towns I have visited while hiking the various long trails, my favorites are on the Colorado Trail and Salida shares the top of the list with only a couple of others in Colorado.
