A note about mileage. My journal keeps track of three mileage figures. Miles Hiked Today and Miles Hiked are figures of what I’ve actually hiked. The PCT Map Miles is a figure copied from my navigation app, Far Out. This figure does not represent true miles hiked. It merely tells me and the reader where I am on the trail.
I slept in this morning since I didn’t have far to go. After packing up, I road walked down to highway 74 and caught a hitchhike into Idyllwild. There I met Jordan, a hiker whose path I crossed numerous times over several days.
We headed to Mama’s Egg House for breakfast. He told me he and a group of hikers went over San Jacinto. They post holed, slipped and slided and got lost. Furthermore, he said if he had it to do it all over, he would have gone down Spitler Trail. Looks like my decision to go down Spitler is justified.
I looked around town and eventually got picked up by the General, husband of Jeannine, my contact and host for the next two nights.
