On the move again. Going to Atlanta and then Springer Mountain, which is the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. Yep, that’s right. I’m going to hike the trail.
I arrived in Atlanta on-time, but unfortunately, my backpack did not and I’m freaking out. Apparently it never made it on the plane in Tampa. I filed a lost bag claim, which was the only thing I could do.
I took Marta from the airport all the way to the last stop, North Springs
The car from Hiker Hostel is waiting for me, so I took a train to the north end of Atlanta and met up with Josh, the owner of Hiker Hostel. He had been waiting for me for about an hour, and I was his only ride. A really nice guy to wait that long.
We had a great conversation about his hostel, which is up for sale. Apparently, this is the busiest time of the year for him when all the hikers are massing at the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. He’s got a full house that will be hiking from Springer in the next few days with hopes of hiking all the way to Maine. My hiking partner, Bobby McCabe, and I have no such aspirations. Our plans are to hike to Damascus if possible. Damascus is about 470 miles from Springer Mountain.
