This morning myself and four others are waiting for Meander to return from a couple of hiker shuttles, so we can get on the way to Stevens Pass. Today, we are skipping about 125 miles of southbound trail due to fire closures and fire alerts.
Meander returned about 11:00 AM and we’re on the way by 11:30. The drive down was uneventful and we arrived just before 3:00 PM. The other hikers have resupply boxes at the resort, but I’m ready to go and hit the trail right at 3:00 PM.
The plan is to only go about four miles, and the start of that is an ascent of about a 1,000 feet. Not having hiked for a couple of days left me well rested and I made a quick ascent. The fact that I sent home over two pounds of gear helped, too.
I arrived at Lake Susan Jane a little after 5:00 PM and setup camp. Jack, Mya and her daughter joined me, so we had three tents. Later, another hiker came in and setup between me and Mya with only a few feet clearance on each side. Very rude. I said something to him about it, but it went right over his head. As___le!
