Bill Grace, who provides a shuttle service to hikers, picked me up at the Asheville airport and drove me to the spot where I stopped my hike in May. From there it was only .2 of a mile to Bald Mountain Shelter. As it started getting dark, I thought I would be alone, but two young women walked in and announced they would be joining me. Cat and Sara were good company until dark when we all headed for the sleeping bags.
That night was one of the noisiest I ever spent in the woods. Animals were running on top of the shelter and in front of it. No bears though.
I shot this pic on the trail. I thought the flowers were unusual.
