Back where I finished last year – Rattle River Hostel. This is a great hiker hostel. After three days of tough, challenging hiking in the Wildcat Mountain range, it was time to take a shower, wash my clothes and give my body time to recover. I also wanted to have a good look at my feet and it doesn’t look good for at least four toenails. Rats, again!
After saying goodby to Rick and Clyde, I left the Rattle River Shelter at 9 AM. That’s late for me, but I knew I wasn’t going far. The trail was reminiscent of parts of the southern trail. There were only a smattering of rocks and tree roots, and the trail was mostly dirt covered with leaves. I flew down the trail and did the two miles in 40 minutes. I only had one mishap. I thought I could walk over a downed branch and that did not work out. It tripped me and I went down hard on one knee. The same thing has happened on parts of the southern trail. You would think I learned my lesson.
The hostel was full the night before, which validated my reason for not going further than the last shelter. All those hikers were at the hostel to avoid the rain. Only problem is, it didn’t rain yesterday. However, about 30 minutes after I arrived it started raining and continued for the entire day. All the hikers who were here last night are out today hiking in the rain. I think somebody up there is looking out for me.
