Saguaro National Park and Rincon Mountains Climb

AZT Map Miles 646.2
Miles Hiked 635.9
Elevation 5,285 feet
Miles Hiked Today 13.2

Wow!  What a climb up the Rincon Mountains.  I was up and hiking before the sun was even up.  It was cold – near freezing. As soon as the sun came up, I started shedding clothes layers.  As mentioned in yesterday’s post, the trail was going up 4,600 feet over 7 miles to over 8,000 feet in elevation.  It was a tough climb – even tougher than going up the Grand Canyon.  I made it to the top at 12:30 PM.

After stopping briefly at Manning Camp for water, I continued on to the Grass Shack Campground.  I’m camped at Grass Shack now.  Nothing more of note happened except a lot of huffing and puffing.
