Last Day Before Big Bear

I was the last out of camp this morning.  The plan is to go to a campsite only one-half mile from highway 18, which is the access point to Big Bear.

The hike was uneventful; although I expected it to be mostly downhill to the highway.  Of course it wasn’t.  No problem.  I took a lot of breaks.  After all, there was no rush, and the campsite would be reached early.

There was a burn area that I passed as the trail continued.  It must have been a recent fire, because it still smelled strongly of smoke.  What a shame to see all the dead trees.

Burnt trees

About 3 PM, the planned campsite was reached.  I found a choice, flat spot under some trees and setup.  Then I laid in my tent and chilled out.  Nice!  That is until a large group of hikers arrived with one extremely annoying girl who either was the ring leader or just liked to hear herself talk.  She setup her tent about 20 feet from mine.  The other hikers chose spots further away, but they all joined together at the annoying girl’s tent and talked loudly until dark.  Even in the wilderness you can’t get away from people sometimes.
