Mc Donald’s and Beyond

I was hiking before 7 AM with a purpose.  Mc Donald’s was just over 5 miles north, and I was set on having a breakfast sandwich and some of that lawsuit causing hot liquid in the form of tea.

The day started out sunny, but clouds descended and blocked out the sun.  It was in the low 60’s so perfect hiking weather.  There was even wind, which made it a little chilly when I slowed down.

I made good time to Micky D’s and had placed my order by 10 AM.  This Mc Donald’s was the busiest one I’ve ever seen.  Their parking lot was full, and there was a steady stream of customers arriving.  I ordered at a kiosk. They definitely discouraged counter orders.  There was only one register.  My order was a Mc Griddle sandwich, hash browns and tea.  They initially gave me only the sandwich and tea and no napkins. I had to go back and get the rest of my order (hash browns).  The sandwich was greasy and not very good.  I ate it anyway.

I hung out drinking tea until almost noon.  Finally, I got some water and left.  Although today’s elevation is 20 feet below yesterday’s, the trail gained and then lost a lot of elevation.  There was also a somewhat lengthy ridge walk, which reminded me of Franconia Ridge on the Appalachian Trail. Tomorrow, I’ll gain nearly 5,000 feet in elevation.  I’m not looking forward to it.

I arrived at my destination about 3:30.  It’s a short day, but I don’t want to get too close to Wrightwood where my cabin reservation is for Tuesday and Wednesday.   Tomorrow, I’ll do about 14.5 miles most of which is part of a nearly 5,000 foot climb.
