I got a late start again.  My target mileage for the day was 16 miles, and the late start did not help.  Right off the bat I had a 1,500 foot plus climb.  That was followed later in the morning by another 1,500 foot plus climb.  There’s not much you can do about it except complain, I guess.  The reason for the high mileage target is that is where the next water is.

The weather in the morning is cool, but it heats up really fast.  Still, I was comfortable hiking. Around 12:30 PM, I stopped and took a break for about an hour.  I couldn’t spend much more time resting, because I still had at least eight miles to go.

The terrain changed in the late afternoon to include more trees. I was happy to see that because it meant shade.  A little after 6:00 p.m. I walked into the Chimney Creek Camp.  This is where I’ll be staying tonight.  Looks like a nice place, but I’m the only one here on a weekend – strange.  Water was a little hard to find, but I did find it in a drainage ditch.  Not my first choice for water, but my filter took care of any problems with it.  So that’s it for the day.  Just me in a big commercial campground.
