I was ready to go at 6:00 a.m. this morning. I looked out over Summit Lake and it was covered in fog. The water is warm and the air cold. As a matter of fact, I haven’t said much about the weather. It’s actually been ideal hiking weather. The afternoons have been in the seventies or low eighties almost the entire time I’ve been hiking. The only minus is every morning is cold. This morning it was 44°. That’s why the fog covered the lake this morning.

The morning had its requisite big climb. The trail went up 1,500 feet. After that it was down, up or level in spurts. My goal for the day was 15 miles. I wasn’t concerned about hiking that distance, so I took my time. There were a lot of breaks and at noon time I took 45 minutes.
Trail angels set up a large water cache at Windgo Pass. When I arrived mid-afternoon, I filled my water bladder and bottle and then made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Before that I had connected my phone to one of dozens of battery blocks the trail angel provided. How cool is that? I’ve never seen battery blocks at a cache. This trail angel went far above what a trail angel would normally do. They’re having a trail magic feed at Windgo Pass Saturday and Sunday. Unfortunately I’m two days early. I’d love to see what the trail angel does for an encore.
I hung around the water cache for about an hour waiting for my phone to charge. There were a few other hikers that came in while I was there. Finally, at 3:15 p.m. I decided to head out on the trail and find myself a tentsite for the night
Only 54 miles to Crater Lake.

Great name for a lake.
