I slept pretty good at the Joshua Inn campground. At least it was better than at the hot springs the night before. My campsite at the hot springs was on a slope. I kept sliding down on my pad all night.
There were about 15 tents at Joshua Inn, and we all seemed to get up at once. Allen, my ride back to the trail, already had a full car, so I would have to wait. When he returned, no one was in a rush to get to the trail but me. So we waited. Finally after a half hour, Allen decided he would take just me. I was hiking by 8 AM.
My goal was at least 15 miles. While hiking, I called ahead to Wrightwood and reserved a cabin for next Tuesday and Wednesday. Good deal! The cabin is only $70. Of course, I haven’t seen it yet, so I’ll reserve final judgment.
The trail for the better part of the day went around Silverwood Lake. It’s a beautiful lake with plenty of boat traffic. As I hiked, I decided to go to the Cleghorn Picnic Area. I was having stomach “issues” and was hoping to resolve them with an extended rest.
I returned to the trail two hours later and tried to make up time. The trail went up all afternoon until I found a good campsite at 5 PM. I missed my target by a couple of miles, but I’m still on track to arrive in Wrightwood on Tuesday.
