Today is a zero day in Ridgecrest, which means no hiking. The plan is to clean gear, sort everything out, rest and eat. Tomorrow, I go back to the trail.

I’m heading to Ridgecrest for a zero day. The distance from my current camp is only about 8 Miles to the road where I will try to get a hitchhike into town.

McIver’s Cabin & Spring: Today’s plan was to hike until afternoon, and then find a shady spot to rest during the hottest part of the day.

I woke up at 4:40 AM. It was a mad scramble to close up camp and get back on the trail. Today, I’ll be hiking in the desert – once again.

More PCT Miles Today: I had 4 liters of water and a big climb right at the start. And as if that weren’t enough, another big climb came later in the morning.

I’m heading for a long rest at Miller Spring: My pack was super heavy with 4 liters of water, but I didn’t want to run out like I nearly did yesterday.
I came upon a spring and filled up. I drank 2 liters and drank another on the way to Golden Oaks Spring. I arrived at 1 PM and declared this is camp tonight.

Leaving Tehachapi: The forecast was for temperatures to climb to 100 degrees by afternoon. TThe next confirmed water is 25 miles away.
I’m leaving the Sure Stay Best Western and traveling home to take care of a personal emergency. The first leg of the trip starts at the Kern Transit bus stop.
