David from Pine Ellis Lodge dropped me at E. B Hill trailhead at 9:15 AM. The first part of the trail was about a 1,500 foot elevation gain. The ascent was all rocks making it slow going. I anticipated the difficulty level and wasn’t disappointed. Once I reached the top of Wyman Mountain, the trail went down a relatively easy if steep descent. Then it went up again.

My plan was to stay at Sawyer Brook, which would support several tents and there is a picnic table there. As I headed to the campsite, I ran into a trail crew. I mentioned where I was headed and they told me they already have a camp setup there. So much for that plan. I continued on the steep descent and sure enough, I went head first down the trail. The trail crew was behind me and gave me a hand up.

I finally made it to the Brook and found a good level camp site. It was the last good one with the trail crew tents already setup. After dinner I was in my sleeping bag by 7:30. It rained that night but my X-Mid tent kept me dry.
