Getting Colder and Windy
No rain last night and my tent is actually dry. The sun was shining; although it was getting colder and windy. (wind gusts as high as 49 MPH where reported.)

The day was clear and sunny. The trail was across an open plane, so today I would be hiking in the flats of Arizona.

I saw a pair of mittens in the trail. I picked them up. Later a guy with no backpack approaches looking for gloves. My lost and found has a satisfied customer.

I had a great night’s sleep last night. Definitely the best campsite is on a thick bed of pine needles. It was a gloomy day – kind of overcast and cool.

There was a lot to do before leaving the Grand Canyon South Rim. My tent had a lot of mud on it. I tried to clean most of it off.

Tomorrow I leave the south rim Grand Canyon village. It’s a nice place, but I didn’t have a chance to enjoy it the way I wanted.

I left Bright Angel Campground at 6 AM for the Grand Canyon South Rim. The first part of the trail was relatively flat to slightly rising. I kept in the shade.

I left the Grand Canyon north rim campground and headed for the rim and the way down into the Canyon – almost 6,000 feet. Next stop, Bright Angel Campground.

I made good time. There was nothing remarkable about the trail, and I focused on reaching the north rim of the Grand Canyon. The village came into view at noon.

I arrived at a scenic overlook and there was the east rim of the Grand Canyon. My first view of the Grand Canyon was awesome.
