The campsite last night was comfortably cool. Because of the elevation, I had expected it to be colder than it was. So I guess I dodged that bullet.

Up and hiking by 6:15 a.m., with the Trail continuing from yesterday to go up.  It wasn’t long though, before I reached the summit of this climb, and the trail leveled off or descended a bit.

John, another hiker with whom I’ve been camping, usually leaves our campsite after me but then quickly catches up.  That didn’t happen today until almost two hours after my start.  He seems to be having trouble with the heat.

Speaking of the heat, it really isn’t that hot out. However, the sun is beating down on us and there is no cover. That’s what happens when a forest dies because of fire. Another hiker at a water source made the same complaint about the heat. While I’m not enjoying the relentless sun, being from Florida does help in conditioning.

The plan today is to only go about 14 miles.  I reached the intended campsite and it didn’t look like John was going to make it.  However, he finally did arrive and setup camp nearby.

Tomorrow, we’re going to Big Lake Youth Camp.  They have laundry, showers and food for hikers. I’m sure ready for that.
