Lake City, CO – Zero Day

Lake San Cristobal, outside of Lake City

Here’s some interesting information on this town. Me? Doing absolutely nothing. I love town zero days.

“Tucked in the San Juan Mountains along the Continental Divide is one of the Centennial State’s hidden gems: Lake City. The small mountain community, which stretches less than a square mile, was founded as a mining town when four prospectors illegally set up mines in Ute territory in 1871. After the Ute people ceded the territory in 1874, five men discovered a hotspot for silver and gold in what was then called the Hotchkiss Lode (now known as the Golden Fleece Mine). Lake City was officially incorporated as a town in 1875. Today, Lake City stands as mecca for outdoor recreation—from ice climbing and mountaineering to fishing, hunting, and wildlife watching.”

Hi Tony, Glenda here! I am sitting here on Sunday morning and stumbled across your blog on FB. What an interesting journey you have experienced! If it makes you feel any better it is supposed to be 94 again today.
Monroe is in the hospital in Asheville. Not sure what is wrong. At first they thought he had pneumonia, then Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever and now they just don’t know. He has tested positive for COVID. I will let you know when I hear something.
Enjoy Lake City and eat up! Look forward to the next post!
From Treasure Island. Have a Blessed Sunday!

Hi, Glenda. Thanks for the weather report. I’m in Silverton, Colorado this morning and it’s 41°. I’m trying to decide if I prefer that or the 94°. I arrived here yesterday and have Internet connectivity for the first time in days. I’ll be enjoying the hospitality of Silverton for a few days before moving on to finish the trail.
