Evening with Gary and Janet Bohn
Gary and Janet Bohn invited us to go out to dinner with them. We declined. Neither of us felt presentable and besides. We both had a lot of provisions to eat.

I headed for the trail, It was with some reluctance that I was leaving Flagstaff. The town was pretty lively, but it was time to start hiking again.
The first part of my zero day in Flagstaff was spent cleaning my equipment updating the blog and watching news to catch up on what’s going on in the world.

There was thunder and lightning followed by rain. Then I heard a “prickling” on my tent. It didn’t take long to figure out there was snow on the AZT.

No rain last night and my tent is actually dry. The sun was shining; although it was getting colder and windy. (wind gusts as high as 49 MPH where reported.)

The day was clear and sunny. The trail was across an open plane, so today I would be hiking in the flats of Arizona.

I saw a pair of mittens in the trail. I picked them up. Later a guy with no backpack approaches looking for gloves. My lost and found has a satisfied customer.

I had a great night’s sleep last night. Definitely the best campsite is on a thick bed of pine needles. It was a gloomy day – kind of overcast and cool.

There was a lot to do before leaving the Grand Canyon South Rim. My tent had a lot of mud on it. I tried to clean most of it off.

Tomorrow I leave the south rim Grand Canyon village. It’s a nice place, but I didn’t have a chance to enjoy it the way I wanted.
