Hard Day’s Climb
A 2,700 foot climb lasted for miles and took me all morning. There was a brief decent and back up again for 1,500 feet. This all made for a hard day’s climb.

I passed the point in the trail where you go either to the Collegiate West trail and some pretty big elevation climbs or the Collegiate East trail.

I have a lot of food in my pack and more waiting at the Twin Lakes general store. The thought was to camp one more night, but I decided to go for Twin Lakes.
The altitude must be getting to me, because I was feeling sort of out of it. Plus, I’m having a shoe problem. This has all the markers of an off day

I had not planned for a long day, but it was clear I could make a campsite that was right on a lake. There was a gain of a 1,000 feet to get to it, though.

Almost had a repeat of the ridge walk with hail, but I had better weather than yesterday. There was no problem getting up to the ridge.

It’s about to storm and I’m caught on a mountain ridge! I’m the highest thing on that ridge, which makes me a target. I walk faster.

Around 11 AM I decided it was time to make sure I had a place to stay tonight, After searching Trip Advisor, I settled on The Bivvi, Breckenridge.

That’s frost on my tent. I set up camp in an open field last night and boy, did it get cold. My new sleeping bag kept me warm, though.

The plan is to get to Breckenridge by Friday. So far I’m close to my schedule. Today, I should reach the Guernsey Creek campsite.
